A Prayer of Awareness
2 Kings 5:1–19 (New International Version): Naaman and leprosy
This prayer could be used immediately after the above story is read, with two alternating voices.
Today, I am Naaman,
struck down,
unprotected by wealth and position, open to the brokenness of humanity, like everyone else.
Creating God,
make me more aware of who I am, and what I feel,
and where I am in humanity’s patterns.
Today, I am a servant girl,
doing my best,
filling my place,
yet knowing more than I’m expected to, of goodness and healing.
Accepting God,
make me more aware of who I am,
and what I know,
and what I have to offer beyond myself.
The Colour of Love 11
Today, I am a foreign king, apprehensive,
unsure of motives and obligations, yet seeing beyond role
and human boundaries.
Embracing God,
make me more aware of who I am, and where I stand,
and the barriers I can break down.
Today, I am Elisha the prophet, standing firm,
with wisdom to offer,
beyond my understanding
or the knowledge of anyone else.
Enlivening God,
make me more aware of who I am,
and where my faith lies,
and the wisdom I can bring that’s beyond my comprehension.
Today, I am Naaman,
raised up,
healed in humility,
given a new start and a new hope I never knew possible.
Loving God,
make me more aware of who I am, and what I have,
and what is possible for me.
